EP. 73 // Growth in Scrapbooking

A year and a half ago, Amanda + Kristin launched episode 10 of this podcast answering the question WHY WE SCRAPBOOK. With this season’s theme of GROWTH, we thought it was appropriate to revisit this question. We talk about how we’ve evolved our documenting hobby up until this point, and the shifts in our approach & execution.

EP 73 BLOG POST.jpg

SUMMARY //

In this episode, A + K talk about scrapbooking as an amazing tool for personal growth since it causes you to be reflective, and how the craft of memory keeping blends the past, present, and future all at once.

The girls discuss supplies and not treating them so preciously. Also, A + K make a point that choosing supplies is not the only choice you need to make for a project. Crafters don’t realize that choosing the approach is equally if not more important.

How to extrapolate EASE and JOY in scrapbooking is what the girls are goaling to get across in the episode, and also suggest focusing on using all FIVE SENSES to pay attention to the little details of your life.

EP. 66 // WONDERFULLY WITTY WISDOM w/ CATHY ZIELSKE

Boy, did we land a ‘GET’ in today’s guest! We are thrilled to have the one, the only, the witty, the wise, and the wonderful Cathy Zielske on the show today. All hail the QUEEN of CRAP-FREE SCRAPBOOKING! Both Amanda + Kristin have followed her for years and agree that her presence + voice in this creative crafting community we all known & love is unmatched and unparalleled. It is our pleasure to bring her to you with this episode.

66 CATHY ZIELSKE blog post.jpg

SUMMARY //

Cathy Zielske (pronounced simply as Zil-ski) gives us the backstory of how she got to where she is today, from her job as an assistant editor for a magazine to having a baby and freelancing to her foray into scrapbooking and how she ‘got hooked’.

Amanda + Kristin also talk with Cathy about finding your ‘thing’ and staying afloat in the creative industry by pivoting when needed and always evaluating when you need to make a tweak.

Cathy also gives the girls the low-down about FIT: her online class all about documenting self-care. The class aims for its participants to to answer: Can you connect to what you need?

FAVORITE QUOTES FROM THE EP //

Cathy on sustainability & why she doesn’t want to go back to corporate America :

“If I don’t change and evolve and try new things, I might not be able to sustain this. And I want to be really clear too: I don’t know anyone who’s self-employed whose business just sustains without vigilance and constant effort. If I don’t come up with something, I don’t make money. If I don’t make money, I have to go back to corporate America, and if I go back to corporate America, I have to wear…A BRA!”

Cathy on ‘DOING IT ALL’ :

“We are fed this ridiculous idea…that we are limitless….the sky is the…you know. Here’s the reality: we are actually human and the very nature of being human is that we are limited.

I feel like this idea that we can ‘do it all’ or that we should be ‘doing it all’ actually can contribute to a lot of negativity because it’s just not accurate. Like, LIFE ISN’T LIMITLESS. We are born and - guess what?! - nobody is going to make it out alive…there is a span, and within that span, you have limits, so get it line with what is real, and figure out: What are my strengths? What are my weakness? Go from there…”

EP. 58 (FROM THE VAULT) // Why We Scrapbook

Hey, crafty ass females! We are two weeks into the new year + here we go! Today’s show is another re-release from our episode archives that we are affectionately calling ‘FROM THE VAULT’. As we prepare for the second half of season 3 - we will be pulling some of our most relevant & favorite episodes from seasons 1 + 2 to share with you again. TODAY: a re-release of EP. 10 where Amanda + Kristin explore the question ‘WHY DO WE SCRAPBOOK?’. Enjoy, if you haven’t heard it yet.

10 why we scrapbook blog post 02.jpg

Paper + memories. Memories + paper. A + K  have a deep love & affinity for both, and chances are you crafty ass females visiting this space today do too. Let's discuss!  // (NOTE: the above below were completed in the Awesome Ladies Project Story Journal.)

SUMMARY //

Amanda + Kristin explore why we as crafty ass females scrapbook / document / memory keep our life. They talk about how their memory keeping has evolved, and discuss documenting hard things.

A + K also explain that although they are ALL ABOUT paper + memories, you won't find them spending every waking moment posing + taking pictures for 'the scrapbook.' Life events are meant to be lived. The 'art' part comes later.

FAVORITE QUOTE FROM THIS EP //

"Taking a picture is a two-dimensional thing...a picture is a two-dimensional object...and sometimes you just really need to live in a three-dimensional world." -- Kristin

CALL TO ACTION //

We would love to hear why you memory keep!  What are your reasons? How long have you scrapbooked? What started you scrapbooking? What has made you stay? If you left, what brought you back to it! Leave them in the comments below or share on our Discord channel!

EP. 11 // 30 Days of Lists + low impact projects

#ListersGonnaList because DUH! we crafty ass females have a bunch of things to get done and we need to get them done efficiently! But what if the idea of lists could be reframed in our heads and thought of as creative exercise? ...a very low-impact, manageable way to get crafty? A + K say YES, PLEASE!

11 30 days of lists blog post 02.jpg

DISCLAIMER: Please note that Amanda's audio is a bit choppy in this episode + we apologize for any annoyance or inconvenience it might cause in your listening. Let's use this as a friendly reminder that we have no big company backing, no fancy equipment, no specialized team of talent & we're learning as we go. We will adjust + make improvements as time goes on, & appreciate your understanding on this matter. Thanks, babes!

SUMMARY //

Amanda + Kristin talk about the creative listing challenge entitled 30 Days of Lists. They touch on prepping your #30lists album, how the challenge works, how they've participated in the past, and the benefits of these type of low-impact projects with an established community backing.

FAVORITE QUOTE FROM THIS EP //

"The initial low-impact exercise of just grouping these images ends up - when you reflect and look at them - giving you clues into things you didn't even realize 'cause they're all subconscious. In the choosing and the writing of the list or the choosing of the images, things are happening and themes from your life are popping up that maybe you wouldn't have seen just when you're trying to think about them. The act of making the list or picking the images is what ends up fleshing out the themes...doing the work..." -- Amanda
